We recently hosted a wellness webinar about understanding diabetes and the wellness basics to help you manage.

Uncomplicate Your Diabetes

Diabetes can be confusing and stressful to manage. Focus on the 7 wellness basics to simplify your day-to-day management of diabetes and allow yourself to take the stress off. It’s always a good idea to consult your doctor if you make any changes to your habits and routines.

1. Take the stairs

Implement more natural physical activity in your daily routine by taking the stairs whenever possible. You can also park farther away from the building to get more steps and walk or ride a bike rather than drive. Start slow and with small steps then gradually increase your movement.

2. Eat fibrous fruits and veggies

Eating more fiber-rich fruits and veggies keeps you full while ensuring you get all the nutrients you need. The more fibrous your produce is the easier it is to manage your blood sugar.

3. Manage stress

Stress has a huge impact on your physical body, your immune system, and how your body naturally regulates itself. Find ways to effectively manage stress like yoga, meditation, journaling, etc.

4. Get enough sleep

Sleep regulated and resets your bodily processes and hormones. Get enough sleep by establishing a wind-down routine without screens, regulate your liquid intake to limit mid-sleep bathroom breaks, and eat magnesium-rich foods.

5. Find the medication that works for you

There are many types of medication available to help you manage diabetes. Pay attention to how you feel on your current medication and talk to your doctor about all of your options. You are your own advocate!

6. Monitor your blood sugar and understand spikes

Keep a log of your blood sugar and spikes so you can understand what helps regulate your blood sugar and what doesn’t. Pay close attention to your food and beverage intake, exercise habits, and sleep.

7. Join a community for support

Lean on the support you already have to help hold you accountable to regulating your blood sugar, and seek out new support in medical professionals, support groups, and family or friends managing their own diabetes.
