We recently hosted a wellness class in which participants learned how to intentionally seek Work-Life Balance for a more fulfilling personal and professional experience, while fostering health and well-being.

What is Work-Life Balance?

Work-life balance is often depicted as a perfectly balanced scale. In most cases, that is simply not realistic or achievable. Instead, we can think of work-life balance as striking a healthy balance between your working life and your personal life. Finding your healthy balance will take some work and reflecting. Here are 5 ways you can focus on creating your healthy work-life balance.

1. Balance Your Stress

Stress is inevitable at work and at home. Have a few techniques to balance and relieve your stress.

Try breathing techniques, physical activity, or positive social interaction.

2. Transition Strategies

Set an intention on your way to work and decompress on your way home.

Listen to motivational music on your way to work and silence your work notifications when you go home.

3. Take Frequent Breaks

When you take breaks, you come back to work refreshed and more productive.

Honor your lunch break and take 5-10 minute breaks away from your computer throughout the day.

4. Create Routines

Create routines to minimize the brainpower needed in decision-making.

Schedule “like” tasks at the same time every week and prioritize important tasks during your peak productivity.

5. Weekly Check-Ins

Check in with yourself weekly to create awareness of how you’re feeling at work and at home.

Ask yourself: “what are my signs that life is out of balance?” and “What changes can I make to feel more balanced?”

Choose one or two strategies to start and be consistent! If you are interested in seeing the full wellness class, you can watch here. This class was taught by Certified Health and Life Coach Dr. Abby Horton and Certified Life Coach Allison Curington.
