We recently hosted a wellness webinar about practicing mindfulness to relieve stress and improve productivity.

Create a Mindful Morning Routine

Mindfulness helps relieve stress, regulate emotions, strengthen the mind-body connection, and improve productivity. Try these steps before you do anything else to create a mindful practice and set yourself up for a great day.

1. Sensory Orientation

Before reaching for your phone, orient yourself and allow your body and mind to wake up by picking out 5 things you see, hear, smell, feel, and taste.

2. Mindful Breathing

While still lying in bed, take 5 minutes to breathe diaphragmatically and allow as much oxygen as possible to flow through your body.

3. Grounding

As you rise and your feet hit the floor, hum your favorite song to activate your vagal nerve and your parasympathetic nervous system.

4. Muscular Release

Get the blood flowing by stretching your neck and shoulders, circling your wrists and ankles, and moving however you need.

5. Set Your Intention

Start your day by setting one big goal for the day. Write it down in a journal or somewhere you can see it throughout the day to keep you on track.

These are just a few tips to start practicing mindfulness to set yourself up in the morning and reap the positive benefits all day. If you are interested in seeing the full wellness class, you can watch here. This class was taught by Michela Snell, UREC Group Exercise Coordinator.
